Mr. Shepherd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many additional personnel have been engaged by Customs and Excise since the introduction of the 25 per cent. rate of VAT and as a result of the imposition of the 25 per cent. rate;

(2) what will be the additional annual cost of collection of VAT subsequent to the imposition of the 25 per cent. rate.
