HC Deb 25 June 1976 vol 913 cc470-1W
Mr. Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has had discussions with the building societies in relation to loans for house purchase in Scotland; and, in particular, if he has discussed alterations in the usual rules applied by building societies in relation to an extension of the period of repayment and an extension beyond two and a half times gross income for the amount of loan to be made.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

Discussions between building society representatives and my officials have, in the main, been directed at the problem of providing cover for property that at present attracts loans from neither building societies nor local authorities. Questions of repayment periods and the amounts of loans are for building societies themselves to determine.
