asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a further statement on the future of the Royal naval dockyards.

Mr. Duffy

As indicated in the Statement on Defence Estimates 1976 (Command 6432) there is a continuing requirement for the four home dockyards to provide the support needed to maintain approved Royal Navy force levels, particularly those necessary to enable our NATO commitments to be fulfilled. All of them will have a heavy load of naval refitting and repair work as far ahead as can be foreseen.
