§ Mr. Tugendhatasked the Attorney-General (1) what is the procedure for investigating allegations of theft of articles while in the custody of the Director of Public Prosecutions; and if he is satisfied with the operation of that procedure;
(2) how many investigations of alleged thefts of articles while in the custody of the Director of Public Prosecutions were carried out in the three most recent periods for which information is available; and on how many occasions people have been charged with alleged offences while in the employ of the Director of Public Prosecutions during each of the three periods.
§ The Attorney-GeneralI am aware of no allegations of theft of articles while in the custody of the Director of Public Prosecutions within the last 10 years. Were such an allegation to be made, however, an internal investigation would be made initially and, where this indicated that there might be substance in the allegation, the Director would request the police to carry out a criminal investigation.
