§ 10. Mr. Wigginasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with present controls on the use of purse seine nets.
§ Mr. BishopThere are no national regulations controlling purse seining. In the Government's view, it is the quantity of fish taken rather than its method of capture which matters. The United Kingdom has consistently pressed for international quota schemes to protect fish stocks within bodies such as the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission.
