HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c78W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will abandon the Job Creation Programme and introduce a scheme whereby school leavers perform tasks of benefit to the community, as part of a training programme, in return for wages at the rate of unemployment benefit plus £6 per week.

Mr. Golding

The Job Creation Programme is continuing to provide useful opportunities for many young people who would otherwise be unemployed and there is no intention of abandoning this most worthwhile scheme. Consideration is being given to other measures to help alleviate the unemployment problems of young people and an announcement will be made shortly.
