HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c35W
Mr. Farr

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the number of persons registered as bankrupt in the latest available three-month period; and what was the loss to the Exchequer as a result of this in respect of VAT.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

During the quarter ending 31st May 1976, the following insolvencies which involved persons registered for value added tax were identified by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise.

Receiving orders in bankruptcy 809
Compulsory windings-up 572
Creditors' voluntary windings-up 832
Receiverships 300
Trust Deeds (Scottish personal insolvencies) 54

All these cases are still under active consideration and it is not possible at this stage to give the total of the value added tax which will be claimed in respect of these insolvencies, or the percentage dividend to be paid as a result of such claims.
