HC Deb 19 July 1976 vol 915 c364W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a statement on the latest situation regarding the Scottish Daily News, in view of the offer of £800,000 for the building and the possibility of new jobs being created by the launching of another newspaper.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

The disposal of the assets of Scottish News Enterprises Ltd., which has been in liquidation since October 1975, is a matter for the Official Liquidator.

No application has been made to the Government for assistance towards any new newspaper project in Glasgow. The difficulties experienced by the Scottish Daily News, and the position of the newspaper industry as a whole, suggests however that any such application would require the most rigorous examination.
