HC Deb 13 July 1976 vol 915 c136W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the number of occasions in the last two years on which regional water authorities have had to put restrictions on the use of domestic water.

Mr. Denis Howell

I regret that information about the number of occasions on which restrictions have been imposed is not readily available.

During the summer of 1974 six water authorities in England and Wales banned the use of hosepipes for a time in some parts of their areas. In the summer of 1975 the number was seven. This year all but one of the 10 water authorities have done so.
