§ Mr. Durantasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the total expenditure by local authorities in England and Wales on the arts in each year since 1970.
§ Mr. Hugh JenkinsI informed the hon. Member for Ripon (Dr. Hampson) on 25th March last—[Vol. 899, c.128]—that this information is not available. A special survey mounted by the Arts Council of Great Britain in respect of 1972–73 and prior to reorganisation concluded that local authority expenditure, in England only, totalled approximately between £14.7 million and £15.5 million. I am unaware of any parallel survey related to Wales.
