HC Deb 26 January 1976 vol 904 c37W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services on what criteria she bases her judgment that it is necessary to guarantee the existence of private medicine.

Mrs. Castle

It has always been my wish to secure an orderly phasing out of private practice from National Health Service hospitals and I believe that this will be assisted by the guarantee referred to in the proposals published on 15th December, which should remove any fears which doctors and others may have that this Government intend to abolish private practice altogether and introduce a full-time salaried service.
