Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many requests for information or advice have been made by local authorities to his branch IE in accordance with paragraph 14 of Department of the Environment Circular 123/75; and whether any week, of the hours of overtime being worked in all manufacturing industries at the latest convenient date; and how this compares with the numbers of registered unemployed in manufacturing at a similar date;

(2) what is the full-time job equivalent, assuming a 40 hour week, of the hours of overtime worked in each of the following industries at the latest convenient date: (a) food, drink and tobacco, (b) coal and petroleum products, (c) chemical and allied industries, (d) metal manufacture, (e) mechanical engineering, (f) instrument engineering, (g) electrical engineering, (h) shipbuilding and marine engineering, (i) vehicles, (j) metal goods not elsewhere specified, (k) textiles, (l) leather, leather goods and fur, (m) clothing and footwear, (n) bricks, pottery, glass, cement, &c., (o) timber, furniture, etc., (p) paper printing and publishing, and (q) other manufacturing industries; and how these figures compare with the numbers of registered unemployed in each of the industries at a similar date.

Following is the information for Great Britain at November 1975:

breaches, or suspected breaches, of pay limits have so far been notified to his department.

Mr. Booth

No breaches or suspected breaches of the policy have been reported to my Department by local authorities. One local authority has sought advice in accordance with Department of the Environment Circular 123/1975.

Mr. Bulmer

asked the Secretary of State for Employment which trade unions in the public sector have settled for wage increases of less than £6 since the Government's £6 limit came into operation; and which have received £6.

Mr. Booth

Systematic information is not collected about the unions involved in particular settlements. All major public sector settlements have been at £6.
