§ Mr. Reidasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make an estimate of the extent by which the demand for kidneys for transplantation exceeds the number of kidneys available.
§ Mr. William RossIt is estimated that between 100 and 150 people in Scotland each year could benefit from a kidney transplant but only 41 patients resident in Scotland are currently on the file of the National Organ Matching and Distribution Service as awaiting a suitable kidney for transplantation. In 1975, 49 kidney transplant operations were carried out.
