HC Deb 18 February 1976 vol 905 cc709-10W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if the National Bus Company has informed him of any proposals to make service economies resulting from the level of bus revenue support for 1976–77; and which counties will be affected.

Dr. Gilbert

The National Bus Company's preliminary estimate is that, because some counties appear to have decided not to meet the full costs of maintaining services, service economies of about 25 million miles—about 31½2 per cent. of NBC's total annual mileage—could occur. The size and incidence of such economies depend upon the outcome of the discussions which NBC subsidiary companies are at present having with county councils.
