asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will make a statement on the Liverpool Area Hospital Service and, in particular, the progress of the Liverpool Teaching Hospital Project.

Discussions are in progress between the Mersey Regional Health Authority and my Department about the latest estimates of the cost of completing the Liverpool Teaching Hospital. I will write to my hon. Friend when I have reliable figures.
