§ Mr. Lawrenceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the annual tax revenue from alcoholic drinks in each of the past three years.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon£1,075 million in 1972–73, £1,144 million in 1973–74 and £1,484 million 1974–75. These figures include estimates of VAT receipts from the supply of alcoholic drink in 1973–74 609W and 1974–75. Because VAT is collected in arrear and there were rebates of spirits, beer and wine duties paid on goods held in stock on 31st March 1973 before the introduction of VAT, the revenue in 1973–74 was less than for a full year.
