§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonUnder the Immigration Rules for Control on Entry: Commonwealth Citizens (HC 79), a person settled in this country who is to be joined by a dependant must be able and willing to support and accommodate the dependant without recourse to public funds. This requirement does not apply to the admission of the wife, or a child under the age of 18, of a Commonwealth citizen who has the right of abode or was settled in the United Kingdom on the coming into force of the Immigration Act 1971. Inquiries to establish that the requirements of the Rules are met may be made by the Immigration Service or by the police.
