§ 51. Mr. Huntasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what reply he has sent to the letter addressed to him on 22nd January 1976 by Mr. Horace Cutler, Leader of the Conservative Opposition on the Greater London Council, regarding the date of the next GLC elections.
§ Mr. John SilkinI replied to Mr. Cutler today in the following terms
The Prime Minister has asked me to reply to your letter of 22nd January about the London Councillors Order. As I am sure you know, these arrangements were made only after consultations with, among others, the Conservative Party and the then Conservative GLC; these revealed unanimous agreement that the next GLC election should be postponed to 1977. The Order gives effect to the agreement then reached, and I see no reason not to proceed with it.
