HC Deb 09 February 1976 vol 905 cc34-5W
32. Mr. Luard

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what representations he is making to the Japanese Government about administrative practices impeding the export of British cars to Japan.

Shore

Mr. Both domestically produced and imported cars are required to undergo tests in Japan to see if they meet the stringent Japanese emission and safety standards. During my visit to Tokyo last year I discussed testing arrangements for British cars with Japanese Ministers. Detailed technical talks on testing and safety and emission standards between United Kingdom and Japanese officials are continuing.
