§ Mr. Geraint Howells
asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the latest figures for emigration from Wales.
§ Mr. John Morris
Estimates from the International Passenger Survey show that in 1974 the latest year for which figures are available, about 7,000 people left Wales for countries outside the British Isles. During the same period, 3,500 people entered Wales from outside the British Isles. Information on migration between Wales and the rest of Great Britain is available only from Census728W returns. A summary of the information from the 1971 Census appears in "Migration Regional Report, Wales Part I", a copy of which is in the Library.
