HC Deb 04 February 1976 vol 904 cc633-4W
27. Mrs. Millie Miller

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to encourage local authorities which are not already doing so to bring into use vacant housing property in their areas.

Mr. Armstrong

I would refer my hon. Friend to the full reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Salford, East (Mr. Allaun) on 19th December.—[Vol. 902, c. 899.]

72. Mr. Hal Miller

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what rate of new council house building he expects for 1976 and 1977, respectively.

Mr. Freeson

In contrast to the disastrous trend in public sector house-building during 1970–73 we have produced a major recovery, which I hope will be maintained. Starts in 1975 were up by 53 per cent. on 1973 and new approvals up by 52 per cent.
