I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that information is not available in the precise form requested, but on 14th October 1976, the latest date for which figures are available, 359 registered disabled people of whom 60 were so severely disabled as to be capable only of employment under sheltered conditions—Section II cases—Were unemployed in the area of Newcastle upon Tyne employment office.
The latest information about the period for which registered disabled people have been unemployed relates to 8th July 1976. The following are the figures for Newcastle upon Tyne employment office area:—
(Employment) Act, local employers with 20 or more employees have obligations towards registered disabled people. Remploy factories at Longbenton, Gateshead and Jarrow and a blind workshop at Newcastle upon Tyne provide sheltered employment for severely disabled people.
