Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the liaison between local offices of his Department and local authorities concerning single homeless people.

Mr. Deakins

Yes, but the Chairman of the Supplementary Benefits Commission will be writing to my hon. Friend about the position in his constituency.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the policy of his Department concerning the granting of extra needs payments to single homeless people allocated local authority accommodation;

(2) if he will make a statement on the granting of extra needs payments to single homeless people in Liverpool who have been allocated council accommodation, details of which have been sent to him by the hon. Member for Liverpool, Scotland Exchange.

(3) if he has received representations from welfare rights workers concerning his Department's granting of extra needs payments to single homeless people.

Mr. Deakins

Exceptional needs payments are made at the discretion of the Supplementary Benefits Commission. The Commission's Chairman, David Donnison, will be writing to my hon. Friend about the situation in his constituency.
