HC Deb 09 December 1976 vol 922 c283W
37. Mr. Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he intends to alter the regulations that control fishing vessels under SI 1975 No. 330 with regard to inshore fishing vessels.

Mr. Clinton Davis

No. The regulations are kept under continuous review, but I see no reason at present to make any alterations specifically for inshore fishing vessels.

38. Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what regulations exist in other member States of the EEC that cover the safety of fishing vessels; and whether he is aware of any intention of the Commission to introduce any directives concerning this matter.

Mr. Clinton Davis

All coastal member States have their own regulations. The EEC has submitted to the Council a draft regulation directed at a possible restructuring of the inshore fishing industry which would adopt minimum safety standards to be agreed internationally through the Inter-governmental Maritime Consultative Organisation.
