§ Mr. Stephen Ross
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many representations he has received concerning the proposed expansion of the Wind-scale Works, Cumbria, by British Nuclear Fuels; and whether he is now prepared to recommend that a public inquiry be held before work starts.
§ Mr. John Silkin
My Department has so far received representations about the1182W proposed development at Windscale from 23 individuals and organisations. Cumbria County Council, as the local planning authority, is currently engaged in a process of public consultation on the planning application. I would wish to know the outcome before coming to a view on whether a statutory public inquiry into the proposed development is necessary or not.
