HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 cc1217-8W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will list in theOfficial Report such industries and firms over whose prices she has no jurisdiction.

Mr. Maclennan

Under the Counter-Inflation Act 1973 I am empowered to make a price code covering any price or charge for the sale of goods or the performance of services. No industries or firms are specifically exempted from the Price Code, but paragraphs 5–11 of the code specify certain prices and charges which are not controlled, including the prices of exports, of imports on first sale into the United Kingdom, of fresh foods and of various miscellaneous prices and charges. Certain charges by enterprises in the public sector are exempted under paragraphs 120 and 130 of the code. Subscriptions and certain other prices charged by charities and non-profit-making organisations are exempt under paragraphs 150 and 151. For the details, I would refer the hon. Member to Schedule 1 to SI 1976 No. 1170.
