HC Deb 04 August 1976 vol 916 cc804-5W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Attorney-General whether the approval of the Lord Chancellor was required in connection with the present method of compiling the panel of inspectors for highway inquiries.

The Attorney-General

Although there is no statutory requirement to that effect, appointments to the panel of inspectors for highway inquiries are in practice made only after consultation with the Lord Chancellor, in accordance with the undertaking given to the House by the Home Secretary and Lord Privy Seal on 31st October 1957.—[Vol. 575, c. 410.]

Mr. Cryer

asked the Attorney-General whether the Lord Chancellor consulted the Council on Tribunals before making the new rules for highway inquiry procedures.

The Attorney-General

Yes.
