HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 c607W
Mr. Nott

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will estimate the total effect on employment and unemployment of the measures announced on 22nd July.

Mr. Denzil Davies

As my right hon. Friend said in his Statement, he expects that the measures may have reduced the fall in unemployment by about 60,000 in early 1978. I estimate that the effect on employment at that time will be 8090,000. No estimate has been made of the longer-run effects of the measures, since the public expenditure decisions refer only to 1977–78.
