Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what percentage of total housing costs is met by annual rent in England;

(2) what percentage of total housing costs is met by annual rent in each of the following metropolitan districts and boroughs: Liverpool, Camden, Birmingham, Brent and Richmond;

(3) what percentage of total housing costs is met by annual rent in each of the following districts or boroughs: Adur, Medina, Southampton, Portsmouth and Chichester.

From estimates provided by local authorities for 1975–76, the percentages of total expenditure on housing revenue account met by rents can be calculated as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is the average weekly rent, before rebate was claimed, of a three-roomed flat in the public sector in the Greater London area in 1971 and 1976;

(2) what is the average weekly rent, after rebates have been deducted, of a three-roomed flat in the public sector in the Greater London area in 1971 and 1976.

The average weekly unrebated rent of a local authority two-bedroom flat in Greater London was £3.65 in April 1971 and £5.08 in April 1975. Information for 1976 and for the average rebated rent of these dwellings is not available.
