HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 cc558-9W
Mr. Powell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the number of deaths and serious injuries to riders of motor cycles in the four-month period July to October in each of the years 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975, showing separately riders aged under 20 years of age, together with the estimated increase in motor cycle mileage between each of those periods.

Mr. Marks

Following is the information:

whether he is aware of difficulties which have arisen through the lack of shorthand secretarial facilities at public inquiries; and if he will consider authorising the provision of these facilities for inspectors at all future public inquiries.

Mr. John Silkin

My right hon. Friend is not aware of any general difficulties. Shorthand secretarial facilities are made available when the occasion demands, but my right hon. Friend does not consider it necessary that they should be provided at all local inquiries.
