HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 cc529-30W
Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the normal duties of Royal Navy vessels presently engaged in protection duties off Iceland; and what is the total number of vessels currently involved.

Mr. Judd

There are currently four frigates, one Royal Fleet auxiliary and one Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service tug engaged in protection duties off Iceland. The normal peace-time employment of Royal Navy frigates is to exercise and train for their rôle in war and to carry out other tasks as decided by Her Majesty's Government. The Royal Fleet auxiliary and the tug are required to act in support of the Fleet.
