asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the progress made towards providing a hospital for the island of Barra.

Mr. McElhone

The old people's home and hospital proposed for Barra is a joint project and I understand that discussions are continuing between the Western Isles Islands Council and the Western Isles Health Board.
