HC Deb 12 April 1976 vol 909 cc381-2W
Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many children there are of a severely disturbed nature; and what is Government policy about their education.

Miss Margaret Jackson

In January 1975 returns from local education authorities in England showed 18,190 children who had been found to be maladjusted and some of these would be severely disturbed. The education of these children is primarily the responsibility of authorities. They may consider that some severely disturbed children need to receive their education in a hospital or other non-school setting.
