HC Deb 12 April 1976 vol 909 c425W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated number of children in care in the Greater London area; and how many of these are girls aged 12 years and over.

Dr. Owen

It is estimated that some 19,000 children were in the care of local authorities in the Greater London area at 31st March 1975, of whom 5,400 were girls of compulsory school age and 1,600 were girls over compulsory school age. I regret that it is not possible to say how many girls were aged 12 years and over.
