§ Mr. StrangMeasures to prevent the illegal import of animals were considerably strengthened by the Rabies (Importation of Dogs, Cats and other Mammals) Order 1974, which came into operation on 5th February 1975, and by detailed regulations to implement its provisions. These measures are under constant review in the light of the rabies threat, and action to strengthen the Regulations still further will be taken should the need arise.
