HC Deb 08 April 1976 vol 909 cc307-8W
Mr. Lawson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will instruct his Department to investigate and report on the affairs of Canning Town Glass under the provisions of either Section 164 or Section 165 of the Companies Act.

Mr. Lawson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what action he proposes to take in the light of his Department's report, under Section 109 of the Companies Act, on the affairs of Canning Town Glass; and if he will publish the report.

Mr. Shore

The information obtained under Section 109 of the Companies Act, 1967 was passed to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who has assumed responsibility for this matter. Civil proceedings have been instituted by the company against certain individuals and have not yet been concluded. In the circumstances I do not at the present time see any reason to appoint Inspectors under Section 165 of the Companies Act, 1948. By Section 111 of the Companies Act 1967, I am debarred from disclosing information obtained in the course of an enquiry under the provisions of Section 109 of that Act.
