§ Baroness YOUNGasked Her Majesty's Government:
What is the estimated cost of installing 3 to 4 ins. of insulation in the loft of the average three-bedroomed house, as recommended by the Department of Energy.
§ The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of ENERGY (Lord Lovell-Davis)The cost of the insulation material required to lag the loft of a typical three-bedroomed house to the Department of Energy recommended thickness of 3 ins., is approximately £37.
In the first nine months of 1975 the installations reported by Audits of Great Britain Limited were implemented as follows:
- Insulation Specialists 3 per cent.
- Heating Contractors 13 per cent.
- Local Authorities 7 per cent.
- Do It Yourself 73 per cent.
- Others 4 per cent.
It is impossible to estimate the precise cost of installation, as it will vary considerably depending on individual circumstances. However, for an accessible loft the cost of installation by an insulation specialist or heating contractor would be approximately £50 including materials.
