HC Deb 02 April 1976 vol 908 c596W
Mrs. Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what increase there has been to the last convenient date in the collection of waste paper for re-use; and what effect this has had on imports of waste paper and pulp.

Mr. Carmichael

Statistics of waste paper collections are not available, but consumption of waste paper in paper and board manufacture fell by approximately 20 per cent. in 1975 in comparison with 1974 due to the economic recession and the waste paper collection rate no doubt declined correspondingly. Over the same period imports of waste paper and wood pulp fell by 72 per cent. and 21 per cent., respectively.
