HC Deb 02 April 1976 vol 908 c603W
Mr. Goodlad

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what paediatric opinion in the United Kingdom on the causes of excessive lead absorption among children has been under consideration by her Department.

Dr. Owen

In recent months the medical staff of my Department have paid great attention to every aspect of lead in food and the environment and its possible effect on the population. They have studied all the available evidence on the subject and have consulted the Chief Medical Officer's Committee on Medical Aspects of Chemicals in Food and the Environment and its sub-committees, of which some of the country's leading paediatricians are members.
