§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Minister of Overseas Development what action he has taken in connection with the recommendations adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO at its 18th session.
§ Mr. PrenticeThere were three such recommendations.
- (i) Recommendation on the status of scientific researchers. Under the guidance of the Department of Education and Science Government Departments have been informed of the recommendation and will in turn inform bodies responsible for scientific researchers which fall within their competence.
- (ii) Recommendation concerning education for international understanding, co-operation and peace and education relating to human rights and fundamental freedoms. As indicated in a reply which my predecessor gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Greenwich (Mr. Barnett) on 23rd May 1975, the Department of Education and Science is issuing a circular on the subject which will be sent with a copy of the recommendation to local education authorities, and others concerned. The Scottish Education Department and Department of Education Northern Ireland are considering doing likewise in their respective areas.
196 - (iii) Revised recommendation on technical and vocational education. The Department of Education and Science is considering the issue of a circular on this subject. The Scottish Education Department and Department of Education Northern Ireland are considering similar action.
I am arranging for copies of all three recommendations to be placed in the Library of the House.
