HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc707-8W
Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for Environment if he will now make a statement on the content of lead in petrol.

Mr. Denis Howell

The Government is considering what change of policy regarding lead in petrol is needed in the light of the review announced last December by my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State for Energy which is now nearing completion. It is necessary at the same time to take account of current proposals in the European Community for legislation to control airborne lead.

It is hoped to provide an opportunity for the House to debate these proposals and to make a full statement at that time.
