Mr. Batesasked the Lord President of the Council what would be the level of Members' salaries if they were now increased by (a) the increase in average prices since the last salary increase and (b) the increase in average earnings since the last salary increase.
§ Mr. Edward ShortThe present salary level of £4,500 pa was introduced in January 1972. On the basis of the increases in the index of retail prices and in the index of average earnings from then to March 1975, Members' salaries would be increased to (a) approximately £6,750 pa or (b) approximately £7,700 pa respectively.
