Mr. Silliarsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services when was the last uprating of parents' pensions paid to persons whose sons were killed while serving with the Armed Forces; and what plans she has to improve rates and restore the purchasing power of pensions.
§ Mr. Alec JonesParents' pensions are based on need arising from age or other adverse conditions and were introduced at a time when a son was legally liable for the support of his parents under the Poor Law. They have remained unchanged since 1946, because of the introduction of national assistance followed by supplementary benefit.
