§ Mr. Welshasked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in the light of the Department of the Environment's report, Census Indicators of Urban Deprivation, if he will take steps to introduce community development projects to meet the needs expressed in that report.
§ Mr. William RossI have recently set up within the Scottish Office an Urban Renewal Unit, whose main task will be to encourage and co-ordinate, as between the Scottish Office Departments and local authorities concerned, the development of comprehensive policies and activities for tackling multiple urban deprivation. The unit will also consider how to apply elsewhere the experience gained on the community development project currently in progress in Paisley, to which I referred in my reply to the hon. Member on 2nd May.
