§ Miss Joan LestorAt the invitation of the Organisation of American States in 1973 Her Majesty's Government applied for observer status with that organisation. However, following the postponement of a decision on that application by the OAS General Assembly in April 1974, Her Majesty's Government withdrew their application. This postponement was brought about by certain Governments who have territorial disputes with Britain in the western hemisphere. Her Majesty's Government's decision in no way implies any lessening of their wish to have constructive bilateral relations with the members of the OAS.
