HC Deb 05 May 1975 vol 891 cc368-9W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the aggregate total of grants and loans allocated to Scotland from EEC sources from 1st January 1973 to the latest available date; and what proportion of the total amount of such sums accruing to the United Kingdom this amount represents.

Mr. Milian

Subject to the qualifications given below the total of all grants and loans allocated to Scotland from EEC sources to date amounts to £60.9 million or 25.1 per cent. of the total made available to the United Kingdom.

These figures do not take into account allocations from the European Coal and Steel Community which, for the United Kingdom, total £126.47 million, excluding £49.4 million brought under the European Investment Bank for this calculation: of this sum £14.9 million is identifiable as expenditure in Scotland, which is also receiving a share of the rest. The element in this calculation for assistance from the European Investment Bank includes a loan of £10.4 million for the development of the Frigg gas field. There has also been an ex-gratin payment of £2,000 from the Community budget for the Seafield Colliery Disaster Fund.
