§ Mr. Robert SheldonThe child's income limit was introduced in 1920 at a level of £40. To maintain this value in real terms in March 1975, the latest date for which the retail price index is available, the limit would need to be about £180. To maintain the value of the limit in real terms since 1963, when the limit was increased to its present level of £115, the limit would need to be about £275.
