§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will institute discussions between his Department, the Press and police forces with a view to setting out guidelines for co-operation between the police and the Press during major incidents and inquiries into serious crime.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsChief officers of police are responsible for the conduct of relations between their forces and the Press. I believe that there has been a general improvement in these relations in recent years, and I shall consider whether there is anything I can usefully do to help maintain this trend.
