HC Deb 18 March 1975 vol 888 cc382-3W
Mr. Edelman

asked the Prime Minister how many offices of profit are within his gift whose incumbents are not recruited through the normal Civil Service channels; and what is their value.

The Prime Minister:

There are no paid public appointments within my own gift but there are some 61 such appointments, excluding ministerial appointments, on which it is my duty to advise the Queen. The total cost to public funds in a full year is about £630,830.

I also advise Her Majesty on a number of appointments, including ecclesiastical appointments, which are not chargeable to public funds.
