HC Deb 05 March 1975 vol 887 cc415-6W
Mr. Cormack

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many adults and children in one-parent families in Great Britain there are at the moment;

(2) if she will start to publish regular estimates of the number of one-parent families in Great Britain, showing the different categories of family breakdown, the sex of the lone parent, and the number of children, as recommended by the Finer Committee on One-Parent Families.

Mr. Alec Jones

The estimates for 1971 given in the Finer Committee's report were based mainly on the census of population. The Registrar General intends to publish estimates for years between censuses as soon as he is satisfied that they are reliable.
